Dear Sun Spots: Could you please find out where I can redeem a gift certificate that was made out on June 14 this year for $25 from Cathay Hut. The number has been disconnected. It was a gift for Father’s Day from our son. Thanks for your help. – V.P.L., No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots called the restaurant’s phone number Tuesday evening, and it appears you called Monday, when the restaurant was experiencing phone problems. The restaurant is in business. They are open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. except Fridays and Saturdays when they are open until 11 p.m. They are at 1134 Lisbon St.

Dear Sun Spots: I have some Reader’s Digest condensed books and also some Avon containers from 1969. I was wondering if some collectors would be interested in them. I read your column and I enjoy it very much. I can be reached at (207) 753-0871. – No Name, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for someone in the Wilton area who can replace the leg of my porcelain doll. I can be reached at (207) 645-4166. – Helen C., Wilton.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, try contacting Delores Blanchard, 2644 Turner Road, Auburn 782-4853. Delores says to come any time. You might also consider calling beforehand to ensure she’s available. Along with repairing porcelain dolls, she says she repairs most anything.

In the meantime, Sun Spots also checked in with the Dover Doll Clinic, 12 Stark Ave., Dover, N.H. 03820 (603) 742-6818. Sun Spots spoke with Pat, who does work with porcelain. However, she’d need to know whether your doll is an antique doll or not. If it’s not, Pat says it’ll be easier to repair. She’s open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. She is also open Saturdays, but call first. Pat recommends you call her to discuss what you need. She will likely be able to answer your questions.

If looking for other doll repairs, contact Fay Mercier of Dixfield at 562-4549. She does not repair porcelain but will be happy to help with other dolls and teddy bears.

Dear Sun Spots: You have helped me in the past and I thank you. I am looking for a temperature control plug-in for a Miracle Maid Electric Frying pan. I can’t find one in the stores around here. Maybe some place around or in Lewiston or Auburn area might sell them. Thank you very much. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, it appears that Miracle Maid is no longer in business. You might consider contacting Cookware Consumer Service Department to see if they can assist you. You can reach it at 1100 Schmidt Road, West Bend, WI 53090, (262) 626-8623 or via e-mail at info@westbendcookware.com. It can be reached between 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. central time. Sun Spots would also encourage you to contact Portland Appliance Service Center 73 Portland St., Portland, ME 04101 (207) 773-0269 to see if they can also assist you.
