TURNER – Two auto dealers have made the first contributions to Turner Public Library’s Audiobook Fund, enabling the facility to expand one its fastest growing circulation segments.
Jim Emerson of Emerson Toyota on Center Street in Auburn contributed $1,000 to the fund, pointing out that he has many customers and employees from Turner and is pleased to be able to help with the purchase of new audiobooks.
Portland Volvo contributed $160 at the request of one of its customers from Turner.
Librarian Vicki Varney said the facility, located in the Leavitt Institute Building, has a good collection of books on cassette, “but new vehicles are not equipped with cassette players, so we are building up our collection of audio CDs.”
She said popular new books are now often issued simultaneously with first quality unabridged CDs.
“The problem is the cost – from $40 to $80 – so buying them in any quantity for our library is simply beyond our budget.”
She thanked the auto dealers for their support, saying it would enable the library to add substantially to its collection of audiobooks for commuting and traveling patrons.
