Gipper’s/White Rock moved up through the loser’s bracket to finish second in the Maine Men’s Slow-Pitch C1 Tournament last weekend, earning a trip to the Northeast Regional in Salem, Va., on Labor Day weekend.

Gipper’s defeated SwampBucks of Bangor, 6-4, before losing its second game to eventual champs Portland Pipe, 12-0. The locals rolled to a 19-13 win over Rent-A-Wreck and downed league rival BT Pallet, 15-6, then used a 14-run second inning to rip R.C. Grenier, 24-7.

Portland Pipe had a chance to rest while G/WR worked its way to the final, and the champions fought to a 9-5 win. Gipper’s/White Rock rolled up a .510 team batting average in the tournament, topped by Josh Breau, Scott Landry, Bob Haskell, Ben Kelsey, Chip Doughty, Randy Dubay and Mike Gazza.

Fresh from its successful qualification for the National C1 tournament, Gipper’s/White Rock maintained its winning ways with a 23-12 league victory over Le Nationale Club. Hits were plentiful, led by Ben Kelsey, who went 5-for-5 with a home run. Jesse Robitaille homered twice, doubled and singled, while Josh Breau also belted four hits. Jim Webster, Bob Haskell and Randy Dubay each cracked three safeties, with one of Webster’s leaving the yard. Mike Harris was the winning pitcher.

Todd Therrien and Bill Desmarais each delivered four hits for Le Nationale, with Therrien nailing two for extra bases. Nick Dresser and Marshall Gross also were repeat hitters. Le Nationale will compete in the Class D states this weekend in Lewiston and Auburn.
