EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (AP) – Two teenagers were injured in an explosion when one of them mixed household chemicals in a soda bottle, and the boy was to be arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

The boy who caused the Saturday blast in a parking lot, a 14-year-old whose name was not released because of his age, was being treated for minor head and eye injuries, said Nassau County police Officer Joan Eames. A 15-year-old girl who was at the scene also received minor wounds.

The boy was to be arrested on charges yet to be determined after his release from the hospital, Eames said.

Police were still investigating which chemicals were mixed in the two-liter soda bottle.
