FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Fish and Game Association Inc. will offer a two-day, 10-hour course on bow hunter safety for hunters seeking an archery hunting license. The course is required by the state for all those seeking to take to the woods during the archery deer hunting season.

The course will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 22, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at the American Legion Hall, Bradley Street. Participants should bring lunch. Preregistration is required. Only 20 students can be accommodated.

Principal instructor will be Jim Holt, who has 18 years of experience hunting with a bow. He will augment the course with tricks he has learned over the years. The course will consist of a half hour on hunting laws, two hours on hunter safety, two hours on equipment, two hours on first aid and survival, an hour on map reading and use of the compass and two and a half hours on ethics and landowner relations.

Portions of the Sunday class will be held at the State Range, Range Road, Routes 113 and 5, and bows and field tip arrows may be brought to the range. Weather permitting, a blood trail to simulate a wounded animal will be laid out for students to find and follow.
