Dear Sun Spots: I love your column! Can you please help me? I recently discovered that the Sewing Network in Auburn has closed its doors. I used to have my Pfaff sewing machine cleaned and serviced there. Do you know of any other sewing machine repair shops that can service my machine? – No Name, Greene.

Answer: Sun Spots called the Sewing Network’s former phone number and has learned that they continue to repair and maintain most brands of sewing machines, including Pfaff and Viking. Former owner Jean Libbey says she has the old number forwarded to her. She sold the store to another party in 2004 and the store has, as you know, since closed. Sewing machines can be dropped off and picked up at The Bare Necessities, 35 Vernon St., Auburn. Libbey says she has another sewing machine company in Portland, and they pick up and drop off machines just about daily. Libbey also notes that they are honoring all warranties from the former Sewing Network. So if you purchased your machine at the Sewing Network, your warranty for parts and labor will be honored by Libbey.

You might consider bringing your machine to your local sewing machine facility or those provided to the reader above. Sun Spots was in touch with the former owner of the Sewing Network, who has a store in Portland and continues to pick up and drop off repaired machines at the Bare Necessities store in Auburn. If you call the former Sewing Network’s number, 786-3343, the number is forwarded to Jean Libbey, who will be happy to assist anyone seeking repair, cleaning and other sewing machine maintenance.

Alternatively, perhaps there’s a reader out there with one of these machines and an instruction manual who’d be happy to share their knowledge with you.
