LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – The Boston Red Sox minor-league team in Lowell will change its name to the Mike Lowell Spinners for one game when they play at home against Vermont on July 28.

The Red Sox obtained third baseman Mike Lowell in an offseason trade with Florida in which they also got pitcher Josh Beckett. Lowell won’t be at the game, since Boston is home against the Los Angeles Angels that night, but the Single-A team will wear jerseys with the name “Mike Lowell” on the front.

“When the Red Sox traded for Josh Beckett, we were more excited about Mike Lowell coming to Boston,” Spinners general manager Tim Bawmann said. “We knew we had to do something, and we thought this was the biggest honor we could give to somebody with the last name Lowell’ .”

Jerseys worn by the Spinners that night will be auctioned off during the game to benefit the team’s charities.
