LEWISTON – Chartered in 1917, the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club is one of the oldest in the world. In its 90th year, the club’s membership recently unanimously elected Dennis Barriault of West Poland as its president. Barriault is vice president of sales for Central Distributors Inc. of Lewiston.

A Rotarian since 1982, Barriault has served in many roles over the years, beginning as chairman of the Polio Plus Campaign and raising more than $50,000. He has also served as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and for the past several years has coordinated its poinsettia sales fundraiser.

Barriault’s other community involvement includes chairmanship of the board of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, campaign manager of the United Way, and he sits on the Central Maine Community College Foundation board.

In his “Vision Statement” for the year, Barriault said, “Rotary provides a much-needed example of solid integrity, international cooperation, and the spirit of volunteerism.” He continued, “As a club, we will continue to raise in the vicinity of $25,000 for our local service projects. Additionally, it is my goal to introduce the Every Rotarian Every Year’ program to our club, which is basically asking every Rotarian to contribute a minimum of $100 to the Rotary Foundation, demonstrating our commitment to improving world conditions.”

Barriault indicated one of the club’s major goals is to continue to pursue new members who are willing to carry out the idealism of Rotary and “Service Above Self.”

Also inducted were Claire Durgin, office manager at Butler Bros. of Lewiston, as president-elect, and Kathy Becvar, director of annual funds at Central Maine Medical Center of Lewiston, as vice president.
