LEWISTON – Pastor Michael Allen will be guest speaker at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, July 23, at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 62 Strawberry Ave. Allen was pastor for 10-plus years at the church. All are invited.

Church program

HEBRON – East Hebron Baptist Church invites all who are age 4 through grade 12 to it’s “Truth Alive” program.

Age 4 to grade six will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, July 24 to 28, and grades seven to 12 will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 23, and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, July 24 to 27.

The five-day program will offer competition and lessons from the Bible. The daytime program for age 4 to grade six will present stories, action songs, games, refreshments and the opportunity to win awards daily and for the week. The teen program will offer team competition, games, skits and food.

“Truth Alive” will be conducted by a team of evangelists, Josh Florence and Daniel Devine, who attend Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola, Fla.

Market demonstration

LEWISTON – A cooking demonstration from Cafe Bon Bon will be held Tuesday, July 25, at the Lewiston Farmers’ Market in Kennedy Park, near the corner of Bates and Pine streets.

The market, open from 2 to 6 p.m., offers fresh, locally grown produce, baked goods, cooking demonstrations, free recipes and food samples, and booths with information on health and wellness. Cash, WIC and EBT are accepted.

Marks 100th, twice

LEWISTON – Marieanne Forgues celebrated her 100th birthday not once but twice at Marshwood Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation. On July 2, Forgues celebrated with family and friends. On July 6, her actual birthday, she celebrated with fellow residents and the staff of Marshwood.

College workshop

LEWISTON – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will hold an “Essentials of College Planning” workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the Lewiston Career Center, 5 Mollison Way. Adviser Christy Le will be the instructor.

Adults considering college are invited to participate in the free workshop. Center services include assistance in choosing a college, tutoring, personal and financial counseling, career counseling, assistance in applying to college, workplace and college visits and assistance in applying for financial aid.

LEWISTON – An Entrees to Health program on headaches will be presented by Dr. David Burke of Neurology Associates at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in the Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave. A healthy meal will be served for $5.

Church speaker

LEWISTON – Calvary United Methodist Church, 59 Sabattus St., will host a presentation at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, by Dr. Stephen Sokol about his work with the refugees of Darfur in western Sudan Africa.

Sokol works for the International Rescue Committee, which was founded by Albert Einstein in 1933 to help save the Jews from Hitler.

Sokol practiced at Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center from 1972 to 1988. He began going to Africa part-time when his children were in college, then full time over the past four years.

All are invited to the program.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on July 18 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners were: first, David Lock and Richard Balian; second, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; third, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert.

East/West winners were: first, Pat Quinn and Mary Leahey; second, Mike Quinn and Luke Merry; third, Helen Little and Anita Perrier. A STaC New Englandwide game will be held at 9a.m. Tuesday, July 25, at the center.

The club also met on July 19 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Mike and Pat Quinn; second, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; tied at third, Luke Merry and Paul Barber with Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons. Flight B winners were Robert Briggs and Claire Lyons.

East/West winners in Flight A were: first, John Hackett and Leslie Buzzell; second, Katie Love and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Richard Balian and Marta Clements. Winners in Flight B were Richard Balian and Marta Clements.
