AUBURN – L/A Arts is spreading the music to the other side of the river in August as the second half of the Music in the Parks series gets under way at Festival Plaza in Auburn.
Heading up the August performances is the Twin Cities’ steel drum band, Tinpanic, performing on Thursday, Aug. 3, at noon.
Tinpanic Steel Band was formed in 2002 by a group from the Lewiston-Auburn area who shared a love for the lively steel band sound. Four years later finds the band expanded from 8 to 14 members, from using rented drums to now owning their own teal-steel instruments.
The five different types of steel drums and the “engine-room” percussion section blend to create an upbeat sound.
As an added treat, one of the Budweiser Clydesdales will be at the plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In case of rain, the concert will be at noon Friday, Aug. 4, at Festival Plaza. For more information, including music clips and maps to venues, links to performers and a complete schedule of the concerts, log on to www.laarts.org.
