Church speaker

HEBRON – Amanda Robinson, a 2006 graduate of Hebron Academy, will describe her experiences in Malawi at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Hebron Community Baptist Church.

Earlier this summer she spent three weeks working at the Littlefield Orphanage, then traveled about the small African nation. All are invited.

The following Sunday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. the church will celebrate “Sunday in the Neighborhood.” There will be gospel music, storytelling, a barbecue and other refreshments on the lawn.

A cake will be served to commemorate the 215th anniversary of the church, which held its first service on Aug. 23, 1791. For details, call Pastor Meredith Dalessandro at 966-2694.

Merry Widows

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Area Merry Widows Fellowship will meet on Monday, Aug. 7, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, School Street. The gathering will begin for fellowship at 11:30 a.m. followed at noon with a potluck lunch. All interested widows in the area are invited.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on July 25 at the Multi-Purpose Center. A STaC New England-wide game was held. Winners in Flight A at the local level were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Pat Quinn and Mary Leahey; third, James Flanagan and Claire Lyons; fourth, Richard Allen and Richard Balian.

Flight B winners were first, Jim Flanagan and Claire Lyons; second, Richard Allen and Richard Balian. Mike Quinn and Luke Merry were second in Flight B at the New England level. A regular game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the center.

The club also met on July 26 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Flight A winners were: first, John Hackett and Leslie Buzzell; second, Misha Tomic and Katie Love: third, Martine Begert and Nancy Lindgren; fourth, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; fifth, Mary Leahey and Ann Johnson.

Flight B winners were: first, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons. Another game will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For more information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Bridge Club met July 30 at the Masonic Building where a 3 and 1/2 table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Dottie Kellerher and Mike St. John; second, Salley Johnston and Pat Schlegel, also first in Flight B; third, John Joys and Nick Karamessinis, second in Flight B.
