NEW GLOUCESTER – Gilberte Rose Simone Bernier, 84, of 95 Pond Road, New Gloucester, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Born in Lewiston on Feb. 26, 1922, daughter of Alfred and Florence Fournier, she lived in the Lewiston-Auburn area all her life and was educated in local schools.

She worked in area shoe shops, the Hill Mill and Lawrence Bottling Co.

Her favorite pastimes were shopping, knitting, and playing cards with her family and many friends. Her sense of humor and her generosity of love for her family will be greatly missed.

She is survived by three daughters, Sr. Claudette Poulin, CSJ, of El Paso, Texas, Vivianne Fusco and husband, Rudy of Naugatuck, Conn., and Lisette Morrill and husband, Jeffrey, of New Gloucester, with whom she made her home; two brothers, Don and Richard Paradis of Lewiston; one sister, Murielle Melanson of Leeds; four grandchildren, Christopher Harper and wife, Angela, Kim Callahan and husband, Michael, of Naugatuck, Conn., Donna Berube and her fiancé, Kenneth Lathrop, of New Gloucester, and Renee Wilson and fiancé, Emil Gontowski of Cherry Hill, N.J.; and six great-grandchildren, Paige, Melissa, Julie, Carsonlee, Dominic and Katherine.

She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, William and Rene Fournier; a sister, Helene; her first husband, Wilbrod Poulin, and her second husband, Lionel Bernier.
