For instance, the Senior Social Center has weekly meetings from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays at the First Baptist Church, Paris Hill. It’s for anyone who is retired. There are games, snacks, plus knitting, movies, cribbage, quilting, bingo, scrapbooking, puzzles, Chinese auction, Skip-Bo and more. For information phone Jean at 743-8661 (home) or 743-8675 (work).

In addition, you or other seniors in the Lewiston-Auburn area seeking companionship, may contact: The Lewiston Senior Citizens Office at 784-2926, ext. 207. They frequently have bus trips, events and more. They hold a daily lunch Mondays through Fridays at 11:30 a.m. Sandy at Seniors Plus notes you should please call the dining site at 795-4094 to order your meal (they are made off site) at the Multi-Purpose Center in Lewiston. The senior citizens also have a monthly newsletter that might offer you other alternatives.

Those seniors who are homebound may also contact Catholic Charities’ SEARCH program which has been featured in the column many times. It is located at 15 Westminster St. in Lewiston, has a great program called SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope) where volunteers are assigned to elderly people who enjoy their reassurance calls or home visits. SEARCH also benefits from the work of about 30 volunteers who knit and crochet. For more information, phone 784-0157 and ask for SEARCH. They are open every weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The New Auburn Senior Citizens who frequently hold trips, dinners and more social events that would help you make some connections. They may be reached through Jean at 784-5264.

An informal chess class is held from 5 to 11 p.m. Tuesdays in the cafe area of Barnes and Noble booksellers in the mall across from the Augusta Civic Center. Take Exit 112 from interstate 95.
