NAPLES (AP) – No decision was made Friday on whether to charge a 16-year-old boy involved in a crash in which one motorcyclist was killed and a second critically injured Thursday on Route 302, state police said.
Robert O’Brien, 58, of Alfred died instantly, and his friend, Roger St. Pierre, 51, also of Alfred, was flown to the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, authorities said. He was listed in critical condition Friday night, a nursing supervisor said.
St. Pierre was being treated for multiple injuries, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets, he said.
The teen was examined for minor injuries and released, investigating state Trooper Lucas Hare said.
His identity was not released due to the ongoing investigation and consideration of charges, McCausland said.
O’Brien and St. Pierre were riding along the busy highway when the car driven by the 16-year-old, headed in the opposite direction, turned in front of them to enter a camp road, police said.
Part of the highway was closed while investigators reconstructed the 3 p.m. accident.
