RUMFORD – About $5,000 damage was caused to the home of Darly Cameron on Eaton Hill Road on Monday afternoon as the result of an electric stove fire.

Fire Lt. Keith Bickford said apparently the stove and the area immediately to the rear of the stove caught fire when the family’s 15-year-old daughter was cooking. She, her 11-year-old sister, and the family dog escaped the modular home and called 911. No one was injured.

Bickford said the flames were knocked down in about six minutes, and the scene was cleared in just under 50 minutes.

Eight firefighters and two engines responded to the 2:15 p.m. call, along with an officer from the Rumford Police Department and Med-Care Ambulance Service. A Mexico Fire Department engine stood by at the Rumford station.

Bickford said most of the damage was caused by smoke. Water damage was minimal, he said.
