Canton – Robert S. Sherwood, 89, formerly of the Common Road, Dixfield, died Sunday, Aug. 20, at Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Living Center.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Sept. 3, 1916, a son of John and Beatrice (Huggard) Sherwood and was educated in Mexico Maine schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was employed with Oxford Paper Co. for many years. He was a member of the Mexico Baptist Church for many years, and he enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by a brother, Edward Sherwood and wife, Aileen, of South Harpswell.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Alice Bennett; and a brother, Walter Sherwood.
