Brunswick – Ethel L. McClure, 77, of Water Street died Thursday, Aug. 24, at Mid Coast Hospital.

She was born in Charlestown, Mass., March 23, 1929, the daughter of Robert and Christine Campbell Davidson. She attended Medford, Mass., schools.

On Oct. 29, 1948, she married Robert McClure Sr.

In the early 1950s they moved to Maine, where they raised their family. For seven years in the early 1970s she worked at Pineland as a direct care aide. She owned and operated the Durham Day Care for 14 years until retiring.

She enjoyed reading to the students at Durham Elementary School and was an active volunteer in numerous organizations especially with the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She enjoyed beano, baking and was known as “Mrs. Wal-Mart” by the store employees for her frequent visits to Wal-mart.

She was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed attending the Scottish Highland games every year.

Surviving besides her husband of Brunswick are two daughters, Donna Miller and her husband, Sam, of Durham and Lorri Richard and her husband, Marcel, of Topsham; a son, Robert McClure Jr. and his wife, Becky, of Durham; a sister, Christine McCann of Durham; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
