LEWISTON – Robert and Helen Weymouth of Augusta celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 29 at a party given by their children at the Augusta Elks Lodge. A light buffet was served, with music and a slide show prepared by their eldest son, Steve, and grandson, Isaac.

Mr. Weymouth and the former Helen Collins were married on Aug. 4, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Chapel in Lewiston, by the late Rev. John Minnehan.

Mrs. Weymouth is the daughter of the late Melvina and Thomas Collins. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1955, and was employed at Geiger Bros. in Lewiston, prior to her marriage. She was a homemaker until her children were grown and returned to the work force, until her retirement in 1991.

Mr. Weymouth is the son of the late Julia and F.C. (Buster) Weymouth. He graduated from Cony High School in 1951. He retired in 1989 after 33 years as a federal civil service technician for the Military Bureau at Camp Keyes. He concurrently served 37 years in the Maine Army National Guard and is a retired Lt. Colonel.

They now spend spend summers in Augusta and winters in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

They had six children, Stephen and wife, Andrea, of Auburn, Barbara Harrington and husband, David, of Orlando, Fla., Julie Kasperbauer and husband, Justin, of Central City, Neb., Jennifer Richards and husband, Lee, of Whitefield, and Mary Katherine Thurston and husband, Steve, of Lunnenburg, Mass. A son, Jeffrey, died in December of 2004. They have been blessed with nine grandchildren and just recently welcomed a great-granddaughter.

Guests attended from Augusta, New York, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Florida.

The couple is planning a trip to Hawaii in September.
