RUMFORD CENTER – Bill and Jean Hersey recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family and friends, at the Rumford Center Methodist Church.

They were married on July 23, 1946, in Minerva Park, Ohio. Mr. Hersey continued his work for many years as executive director of the Maine Veterinarian Society. Many of the local organizations have benefited from his bookkeeping skills as treasurer and as a SCORE volunteer.

Mrs. Hersey is well known in the area for her musical contributions, as organist and choir director of the Virgin Memorial Chapel in Rumford, a position she now shares with Judy Kuhn.

In appreciation for her music, the Belles, a choral group at the Methodist church, sang an original parody of the Herseys. In addition, Iain Hersey played an original song in tribute to his parents.

Their four children attended the party, Jim Hersey of Vienna, Va., Jane Chandler of Bryant Pond, David Hersey of Verona, Mo., and Iain Hersey of California. Five of their seven grandchildren also attended, but their two great-grandchildren were not able to make the trip to Maine from Missouri.
