This is in response to Tom Clement’s letter printed Aug. 23. He stated that the paw of the “beast” pictured in the Sun Journal was that of a fisher.

Sorry, but a fisher has a paw like a cat, not a dog. I have seen at least a hundred fishers, up close, and that was not the paw of a fisher. My husband is a trapper, and that animal does not even remotely resemble a fisher.

The overgrown claw seen on that paw is called a dewclaw. I am sure we all have seen a dog with dewclaws. More than likely, there was no one around to clip it for the poor dog.

Oh, did I say dog?
