Lewiston – Alvena Edith Ziegler, 89, died on Sept. 6, at d’Youville Pavilion.

She was born in West Poland on Jan. 9, 1917, the daughter of Fred E. Ray and Jennie E. (Dunn).

She attended Poland and West Poland schools. After living in Maine for many years, she moved to Arizona, where she married Frank Ziegler. She was a housekeeper for many years, both in Maine and later in Arizona. She also took excellent care of an elderly person while in Arizona, until she passed away. She moved back to Maine to be closer to family and friends and resided with her sister-in-law May Turcotte for 14 years. Moving then to Bolster Heights and finally to d’Youville in 2005.

Her hobbies included collecting pictures, talking about her grandchildren, buying rings (always had a finger covered), garage sales and enjoying living with May.

She is survived by her son, Eugene and wife, Vivian Polland; grandchildren Darlene, Diane, Denise, Dori, Dawn, and Daren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, May Turcotte; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Polland; husband, Frank Ziegler; son, Lawrence Polland; brother, Joseph Ray; and sisters, Alvira Ray and Bernice Ray (Harris).
