EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Taylor Twellman and Andy Dorman scored goals Wednesday night to give the New England Revolution a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls and hurt the Red Bulls’ playoffs hopes.

Goalie Matt Reis had six saves for the Revolution (9-8-11), who solidified their hold on third place in the Eastern Conference with four games remaining. The top four teams in the conference will make the MLS playoffs. New York (7-10-11) remains in fifth place, one point behind the idle Kansas City Wizards.

Twellman scored his 10th goal of the year in the 16th minute, after Dorman’s pass though the penalty box was deflected. Steve Ralston was able to control the ball and pass it to Twellman, who beat diving New York goaltender Jon Conway.

Dorman scored his sixth goal of the year shortly after the intermission, knocking in a rebound in the 48th minute.

Conway stopped seven shots for the Red Bulls, who could not convert numerous scoring chances throughout the game.
