BOSTON (AP) – Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara, who was forced to leave an exhibition win over Montreal after he was hit by a slap shot, has a bruised foot, the team said Thursday.

Chara was hit point-blank in the left foot by the shot from Sheldon Souray in the first period Wednesday. X-rays taken Thursday morning were negative, said general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Before leaving with the injury, Chara had scored his second goal in two nights.
