Bike rodeo

LEWISTON – The bike safety rodeo, scheduled for last Saturday, was postponed because of rain. It will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in the Colisee parking lot across from Longley School.

There will be prizes, including bicycles and bike helmets. There will be a skateboard demonstration and a bike skills competition. Free pizza will be served. The event is sponsored by the LA Optimist Club, Rainbow Bicycles, Wal-Mart Vision Center, the Lewiston Police Department and the Brain Injury Association of Maine.

Special services

MINOT – October is Welcome Back Month at the Minot United Methodist Church. Events have been planned as follows: Sunday, Oct. 1, World Wide Communion Sunday; Sunday, Oct. 8, special music by the choir and Sunday school program by Minot Pups (puppeteers). There will be coffee and fellowship after the service.

Fortier Chapter

LEWISTON – Members of the Dr. Paul Fortier Chapter 52, Association Canado-Americaine, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in the Senior Citizens Room, Multi-Purpose Center.

Craft fair

New play groups

LEWISTON – The Parent Resource Center, a program of Advocates for Children, has announced new play group times.

Play groups will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays and a new session will be held from 2 to 3 p.m.

Cookies and crafts will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays and a new session will be held from 2 to 3 p.m.

Apple fest

LEWISTON – The Farmers’ Market will hold an apple fest from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Kennedy Park at the corner of Bates and Pine streets. There will be apples, apple cider and apple games.

The market will offer fresh, locally-grown produce, baked goods, cooking demonstrations, free recipes and food samples, and booths with information on health and wellness.

Seniors meeting

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Hasty Community Center. The board meeting will be at 10. Tickets will be on sale for the Halloween party on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Members can bring in items for the Oct. 14 fair, including for the food basket, crafts, knitted and crochet items, jewelry and a white elephants table.

The club met Sept. 20 with 76 present. Attendance winners were Evelyn Rose and Beverly Lashua; pot of gold, Pat Record, Claire Haskell and Roger Briggs. Bingo was played after a fried chicken lunch.

Grange to install

GREENE – Members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Androscoggin Grange for a 6:30 p.m. supper. The meeting, which will begin at 7:30, will include installation of officers for the following year, conducted by State Pomona Victoria Huff and her installing team. An attendance drawing will be held. All members and guests are welcome.

Alzheimer class

LEWISTON – A class on “Living with Memory Loss” will be presented by Lewiston Adult Education from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Lewiston High School.

The program is for family members, caregivers and friends of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Topics will include an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; steps to take now to plan for the future; what to expect and how to cope as the disease progresses; and how to find and use community resources.

Darlene Field, education specialist, will facilitate the class, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter. Cost is $15. To register, call 795-4141.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club held its quarterly Tuesday club championship game on Sept. 26 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Jeanine Kivus; second, Nancy Lindgren and Janet Arey; third, David Lock and Jim Flanagan; fourth, Doug and Betty Sise.

Winners in Flight B were Doug and Betty Sise. A charity game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the center.

The club also met on Sept. 27 when the Wednesday club championship was held at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Larry Fortier and Anna Vitiello; second, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; tied at third, David Lock and Jeanine Kivus with Mike and Pat Quinn; fifth, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Flight B winners were: first, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. Flight C winners were Doug and Betty Sise.
