BOSTON (AP) – Nigel Dawes scored a pair of goals and Jaromir Jagr scored a goal and added an assist Saturday as the New York Rangers took advantage of four power-play opportunities to beat the Boston Bruins 5-3 in a preseason game.

It was the first time Jagr had played in back-to-back games since Games 3 and 4 of last season’s playoffs against the New York Islanders. He had surgery May 8 to repair a dislocated left shoulder and saw his first action of the preseason Friday against the Islanders.

Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves, including 15 in the second period, as the Rangers closed the preseason with a 5-2 record. The loss was the second straight for Boston to the Rangers. The Bruins finished preseason with a 4-3 record.

New York took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a backhander by Peter Prucha. It broke an 0-for-42 scoreless streak on the power play for the Rangers. Brendan Shanahan boosted the New York lead to 2-0 with a one-timer from the slot on a two-man advantage.

Glenn Murray scored the Bruins’ first goal at 13:30 of the second period, on a wrist shot, to cut the Rangers’ lead to 2-1.

But New York answered with two goals 44 seconds apart to take a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. Jagr scored the first, on a power play. It was his first goal since April 13 against Pittsburgh. Dawes converted a Phil Kessel turnover into the Rangers’ fourth goal late in the second period.

Dawes added his second goal of the game at 1:33 of the third period, also on a power play, as the Rangers upped their advantage to 5-1. Boston scored twice in the third period on a wrist shot by Brad Boyes at 7:08 and a rebound by Petr Tenkrat at 14:11.

Hannu Toivonen made 20 saves for Boston.
