Hanover – A family dispute on Main Street ended with the stabbing of a 21-year-old Bethel man Sunday night.
Christopher Sheldon suffered knife wounds between his thumb and index finger on his left hand. He was taken to Rumford Hospital for treatment, according to Oxford County Deputy Justin Brown.
Brown wasn’t sure of the extent of Sheldon’s injuries, but said the wound appeared to be “bleeding out pretty good.”
A spokesperson for Rumford Hospital could not comment on Sheldon’s condition Sunday night.
Randolph Lego, 49, of Hanover was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony, and violation of bail conditions. He was being held at Oxford County Jail without bail, Brown said.
“I’m unsure of why the fight started,” Brown said. “Lego is the father of Sheldon’s girlfriend and we are treating this as a family disagreement.”
After the altercation occurred at Lego’s home, the suspect took off to a family member’s home down the road, where Brown arrested him.
“He was highly intoxicated and pretty resistant, but we took him in with no major problems,” Brown said.
A bloody knife with a 3-inch blade was found in Lego’s pocket and Brown believed that was the weapon used in the incident.
Rumford, Bethel and Maine State Police assisted Oxford County sheriff’s deputies with the dispute. Brown was continuing the investigation into the case Sunday night.
