FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Fish and Game Association Inc. will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Fryeburg Fire Station.

President Jim Holt has announced that the agenda will include several important items, including reports from the attendees who were sponsored by the association to attend the Maine Conservation Camp at Bryant Pond last summer, as well as the 50th anniversary banquet and auction on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Bethel Inn and Country Club Conference Center. Holt said the association has contributed a double-barreled shotgun that will be auctioned off to benefit the Maine Conservation School.

Other business will include a report on the formation of a junior rifle club. One of the problems facing the new club will be the absence of a place where gallery shooting can take place during the winter and in bad weather.

The annual range clean-up and improvement work party will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14. This year, with funding from the grant received from the National Rifle Association, arrangements have been made with several contractors to bring in the heavy equipment necessary to improve the backstops and level the rough spots down range.

Also in the plan is construction of a larger concrete pad and building an extended shelter at the firing points. Generators will be on hand to power nail guns and saws, so all members and others who use the range are invited to attend and have their names inscribed in and their images inserted in the club’s records that memorialize the reconstruction of the range.

Holt will also announce that the annual fall hunter safety course will be held on Oct. 15 and 22 at the Fryeburg Fire Station and the range. Those interested in participating should phone Warren Richardson, hunter safety instructor, at 935-3713.

Holt also invites new and older hunter and shooters to attend the meeting. All are welcome.
