LEWISTON – Playoffs will start Sunday in the Lewiston Area Football League for Youth (FLY). Top seeds in each division will be unbeaten clubs, the Compass Coin Senior Lions, and Grimmel’s Gas-Up Junior Giants.

Sunday’s playoff slate: 8:30 a.m., Junior Redskins (2) vs Junior Lions (3); 10:00, Senior Redskins (2) vs Senior Giants (3); 11:30, Junior Giants (1) vs Junior Steelers (4); 1:00, Senior Lions (1) vs Senior Steelers (4).

In final regular season action, the Senior Lions rolled past the Lisbon Street Getty Mart Redskins 33-0. Among those reaching the end zone were Matt Therrien, Spencer Martin and Ben Wigant (fumble recovery). Wigant was a defensive standout. Stephen Hinkley and George Hopkins ran well for the Redskins. Defensively, the ‘Skins were led by Jacob Lajoie, Tyler Haskell, Hopkins and Brandon Howe.

In the other Senior contest, the Twins Variety Senior Giants blanked Aaron’s Sales and Lease Steelers 19-0. The head coach of the Steelers remarked on how well the team came together this season and encouraged them to work hard in practice for the playoffs.

In the Junior Division, the Giants wrapped up an undefeated season with a 19-0 win over Bagels N Things Steelers. Quintarian Brown tallied all 3 touchdowns on runs of 35, 18 and 55 yards. The Steelers defense was paced by Matt Roddy and Kyle Morin who chipped in with a quarterback sack.

In the other Junior game, the Northeast Athletics Redskins knocked off Don Morin’s Photo Lions 20-6. Offensive standouts for the ‘Skins were Derrick Peters, Dante Brooks and Jeffrey Clark who ran behind a solid offensive line. Sabin Lavorgna, Sam Bridgham and Peters sparkled defensively as linebackers. Having a good game for the Lions were Hunter Comeau, Ethan Melvin, Nicholas Gillespie and Dolor Smith.
