VFW supper

HARRISON – A public supper will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the VFW Hall, Route 35. The menu will include baked beans, brown bread, casseroles, macaroni and cheese, salads, rolls, pies, coffee, tea, milk and punch. It is being sponsored by Ronald G. St. John VFW Post Auxiliary 9238. Cost for adults is $6; children under 12, $3.

Church birthday

WEST PARIS – A 100th birthday celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the First Universalist Church. Those attending will hear about the history of the church and the stained glass windows.

Former ministers will share in the program and the choir will sing. Refreshments will be served after the service and memorabilia will be on display. There will be no service at 9 a.m. that Sunday.

Heywood meeting

NORWAY – The Heywood Club of Norway will meet on Monday, Oct. 16, at the clubhouse on Crockett Ridge Road. Members will work on the scrapbook and should bring items they have to contribute. Call 743-5150 with questions or to arrange for a ride.

Author to visit

WEST PARIS – A. Sayward Lamb, a new Maine author, will be part of the Arthur L. Mann Library’s 80th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 14. Lamb will be available to sign copies of his book, “Deer Tails and Other Tales,” a collection of 40 stories of his experiences in the great outdoors of Maine, Alaska, Florida and Newfoundland.

Lamb will meet people from 1 to 2 p.m. at the the West Paris Historical Society, Main Street, across from the library. The museum will also be open.

Bridge play

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Bridge Club met Oct. 6 at the Fare Share Common, Main Street, where a four-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Les Buzzell and Larry Holmes; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; third, Henry Deutch and Woody Mercier.

Finishing first in Flight B were Carol Curran and Suzanne Andrewsl second, Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens.

Another game will be held Friday, Oct. 13. All bridge players are welcome. A partner is guaranteed, and there is parking in the rear. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153.
