Lewiston – Floyd E. Staples, 72, of Lisbon Falls, passed away unexpectedly at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side on Sunday, Oct. 8.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1934, in Dixfield, a son of the late Clinton and Jeannette (Campbell) Staples.

He was educated in Dixfield schools and graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel. He later married his best friend and the love of his life, Shirley Enman on Sept. 3, 1955, in Upton. They have shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. In the service he worked as an aviation hydraulics technician for more than 20 years. He also worked for BIW as a tin knocker for 19 years.

He was a member of the Sabattus American Legion Post 135, and of the Brunswick Fleet Reserve Unit 156. He loved going to his camp in Upton to go fishing. He greatly enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Diddy.” He was a very loving, caring and devoted man, especially to his wife, children, grandchildren and his sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Staples of Lisbon Falls; his five children, Rebecca Stevenson, and husband, John, of Maryland, Mark Staples, and wife, Debbie, of Durham, Sonya Andrews, and husband, Bob, of Durham, Heidi Pelletier, and husband, John, of Greene and Mica Staples, and wife, Lori, of North Carolina; his two sisters, Clarise Carrier of Carthage and Thelma Berry of Dixfield; his six grandchildren, Joshua and Jeannette Carter, Ashley and Matthew Staples, Lindsey Pelletier and Stephen DeRobertis; his special friend and helper, Jimmy Fowler and family; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
