SALEM – Rebecca London found the back of the net at 36:44 in the second half to lead Mt. Abram to a 2-0 victory over Monmouth in MVC girls’ soccer action Friday.

The Roadrunners (9-1-4) took a 2-0 lead when Emma James converted a relay from Desiree Abbott and held on for the shutout.

Alyssa Morin made seven saves in net for the Mustangs (8-5-1), while Kenni Norton turned away four to earn the win for Mt. Abram.

Dirigo 5, Winthrop 0

DIXFIELD – Senior Melissa Harvey scored a hat trick with three first-half goals to lead Dirigo to a 5-0 victory over Winthrop in MVC girls’ soccer action.

Jasmine Jacques and Katie Hutchinson each added goals, while Tia Dakin had an assist for the Cougars.

Ramblers goalie Christine Dunn had 20 saves while Lanette Bryant turned away five shots for the shutout.

Poland 9, Old Orchard Beach 0

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Eight players scored for Poland en route to a 9-0 girls’ soccer victory over Old Orchard Beach.

Sophomore Jen Baril paced the Knights (5-9) with a goal and three assists. Danielle Belanger added a pair of goals while Hilary Clark contributed with a goal and an assist.

Paige Piper, Heather Johnson and Sam St. Pierre posted the shutout for Poland.

Gray-NG 3, Sacopee Valley 2

GRAY – Jen Farynaz scored off a feed from Brittney Humphrey with 45 seconds left in the second overtime to lift Gray-New Gloucester to a 3-2 win over Sacopee Valley.

Humphrey and Kelsie Taylor also scored for the Patriots (2-12). Jenaka Sawall made 14 saves.

Hall-Dale 4, Boothbay 1

BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Jess Stevens scored the eventual game-winner at the 30:21 mark of the first half as Hall-Dale cruised to a 4-1 triumph over Boothbay in MVC girls’ soccer action Friday.

Michelle Severance and Lindsay Nyitray scored in the second half to put the Bulldogs (5-7-2) out of reach.

With the Seahawks (3-10-1) trailing 2-0 in the opening minutes of the second half, Joyce Chagan found the back of the net.

Mountain Valley 1, Lisbon 0

LISBON – Mountain Valley junior Tanya Martin scored on a pass from Kristen Blais midway through the first half for a 1-0 victory over Lisbon in MVC girls’ soccer action Friday.

The goal was all the Falcons (5-8-1) needed as Karri McPherson recorded the shutout with seven saves.

Keeper Sam Purcell turned away three shots for the Greyhounds (6-5-3).

Falmouth 1, St. Dom’s 0, OT

FALMOUTH – Sara Bachman pushed across the winning goal two minutes into overtime to lift Falmouth to a 1-0 victory over St. Dom’s in girls’ soccer action.

Lindsey Lanouette assised Bachman on the winning tally for the Yachtsmen (11-0-3). Elise Applegate turned away 16 shots for St. Dom’s (6-4-3), while Rachel Bennett made two saves for the shutout.

Field Hockey

Liv. Falls 2, Telstar 1

LIVERMORE FALLS – After a pair of overtimes and five corners, Whitney McDaniel scored on a scramble out in front of the cage to lift Livermore Falls to a 2-1 victory over Telstar for the MVC field hockey championship.

Whitney Mills opened the scoring to give Telstar a 1-0 halftime edge. Marjorie DeBrowsky evened the score with an unassisted goal. Both teams were stubborn through the two overtimes with aggressive defense before McDaniel’s winning score avenging last year’s MVC title game loss to the Rebels.

Telstar keeper Brianna Douglas stopped four shots while Andies (14-1) goalie Sam Whiting turned away six.

Hebron 3, Waynflete 1

PORTLAND – Kelly Bowler scored the eventual game-winner as Hebron completed a 3-1 triumph over Waynflete.

The Lumberjacks (7-1) opened the scoring nine minutes into the game when Maria Kapernekas found the net on a Kailey Bubier feed.

Bowler tabulated her goal five minutes later to put Hebron up 2-0.

Nina Coates pulled the Flyers to within one before Bubier scored Hebron’s third goal of the first half.

Boys’ soccer

Telstar 9, Winthrop 0

WINTHROP – Four different players scored two goals apiece as Telstar buried Winthrop 9-0 in MVC boys’ soccer action Friday.

The Rebels (13-0-1) took a modest 3-0 lead into the half. Max Meader scored two goals and added an assist, while Chris Schwarz, Matt Zinchuk and Tim Fifield all scored twice for Telstar.

Goalie Mike Gingras made 14 saves for the Ramblers, while Kevin Gallagher turned away five shots for Telstar.

College hockey

Maine 7, Bemidji St 1

ORONO – Brent Shepheard scored two goals and Keith Johnson added a goal and an assist for Maine to defeat Bemidji State, 7-1 on Friday.

The scoring started early with Maines Keenan Hopson tallying a power play goal at 16:33 of the first period after rifling a low slot shot over Layne Sedevie.

Maine struck twice more in the first with scores from Shepheard and Johnson, who had tapped one in shorthanded. Defenseman Matt Duffy added another tally in the second at 7:33.

Bemidji State’s lone goal came from Luke Erickson 12 seconds later.

Sedevie had 35 saves. Michel Leveille, Wes Clark and Shepheard scored for Maine in the third period.
