FAIRFIELD – Senior Breanna Wing scored a pair of second-half goals to lift Edward Little to a 3-2 victory over Lawrence in the Eastern Class A field hockey preliminary game

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Red Eddies came out in the second half and put constant pressure on the Lawrence defense as Wing scored her first goal about halfway through the period. Forward Allie Forgues’ cross pass to the center of the field set up Wing’s second goal to beat Bull Dog keeper Kasey McPhail (12 saves) with 3:15 remaining for the eventual game winner.

Lawrence (6-9) had first half goals from Mallorie Blakney and Heather Gillman to give them the halftime edge. Hannah Jacobs added an goal while Ally Butler and Daisey Grondin also got assists for Edward Little (5-10). Joanna Hughes turned away 18 shots for the Red Eddies who will face unbeaten Skowhegan next week in a quarter final match up.

Hebron 3, Holderness 1

HEBRON – Kailey Bubier recorded a hat trick to send Hebron to a 3-1 win over Holderness School in field hockey action Saturday.

Bubier found the back of the net for the first time only 22 minutes into the game as the Lumberjacks (8-1) took a 1-0 halftime lead. Ashley LaPointe scored with four minutes left on the clock for Holderness (3-5) to spoil the shutout.

Soccer

Hebron 1, Hyde 0

BATH – Freshman Emma Leavitt knocked home a Katherine Cole corner kick to score her first goal for Hebron and give the Lumberjacks a win over Hyde.

The goal came against the run of play as Hyde controlled the midfield during the first half.

Outstanding defending by Sara Powers and Vika Planson allowed Hebron to cling onto a slim 1-0 right up to the final buzzer.

Hebron 1, Hyde 0

BATH – Hebron slipped away with a 1-0 win over Hyde in boys’ soccer action Saturday when Oleksamdr notched a penalty kick for the Lumberjacks (3-3-3).

Will Sorkins earned the victory with six saves, while Josh Dubinsky turned away 17 for the Pheonix (3-5-1) in the loss.
