A son was welcomed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Dickey, Oct. 8. As it is not an unusual occurrence to report a birth in this family it might be interesting to state that the latest arrival, a fine looking little fellow, is the 19th child born to Mr. and Mrs. Dickey, there being no twins or triplets, all being of single birth, living and enjoying the best of health.

Mr. and Mrs. Dickey are natives of Clinton. Mrs. Dickey’s age is only 39 years, while her husband is nine years her senior. They claim to be descendants of pure Yankee stock, and reside about eight miles from this village in a remote part of the town of Canaan.

50 Years Ago, 1956

WASHINGTON – Miss Alice Paul, founder of the National Women’s party, said today she is confident Congress will pass next session a proposed constitutional amendment for equal rights for women.

She said opposition to the amendment seems to have “melted away.”

Miss Paul spoke in a statement issued in advance of a scheduled report next Sunday to the 1956 conference of the Women’s Joint Legislative Committee for Equal Rights.

The meeting is to be attended by leaders of 30 national women’s clubs whose membership totals several millions.
