NEW GLOUCESTER – The Planning Board on Tuesday agreed to hold a public hearing in November to consider a proposal to build a barn in the Historic District on Cobb’s Bridge Road.

The hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Lower Gloucester Meeting House will take up Peter and Mary Moore’s application.

Peter Moore told the board he plans to build a 30- by 48-foot barn that is 30 feet high on a vacant lot. He said he’d like to build a home on the property at a future time. The barn is planned to be built 175 feet from the road entrance.

Moore said he would store farm equipment including a tractor, truck and yard equipment in the structure. A workshop and bathroom is proposed.

Septic and water would be installed at the same time.

The Moores own 30 acres in several contiguous land parcels. The project would use roughly three acres when the home and the barn are constructed.

Moore told the board he hopes to erect the barn before winter, then proceed with an application for the home next year.

He must submit a number of items before the board deems the application complete, for example, a deed, boundary survey of the front six acre portion of the property, a landscaping plan, best management practices for storm-water runoff and a street number.

Planning Board member Janet Smaldon recused herself from the discussion. She and her husband sold a portion of the land to the Moores.
