AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library will present “Taxing Maine,” a two-person performance featuring Theater at Monmouth actors David Greenham and Dennis A. Price, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the library, 49 Spring St.

The performance is free to the public and is sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Local sponsors are the Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce and the city of Auburn.

“Taxing Maine” is a short theatrical piece that has been performed to audiences across the state. Greenham and Price take the dry subject of taxes and makes it compelling by lacing humor with history, little-known facts, thought-provoking stories and current material to explore what taxes mean for Mainers, their communities and their wallets.

“Taxing Maine” will leave the audience considering how history and a range of opinions and beliefs about taxes have affected them and influenced the state’s current taxation system.

Following the performance, the actors will remain in character and engage the audience in a discussion of the ideas and issues raised in the play.

Greenham explained, “This will be a fast-paced, informational and entertaining work. The passion and intensity of the transcripts from the history of the legislature are just as heated as the discussions of today.”
