Elks breakfast

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Elks will host the annual hunter’s breakfast from 5 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the lodge, 120 School St., West Farmington. It is open to the public, and cost is $6 a person. For more information, call 778-6761.

Fall dinner

WILTON – St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, High and School streets, will host the fall dinner to benefit the Wilton Food Pantry from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Participating congregations will include the Wilton United Methodist Church, Wilton Congregational Church, Dryden Baptist Church and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

The dinner will consist of a main dish, salads, breads and desserts, as well as hot and cold beverages. Admission is free, though donations will be accepted. The public is invited.

Clothing giveaway

LIVERMORE FALLS – Mizpah Circle will hold a clothing give-away from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 4, at its room in the basement, rear entrance, of the Treat Memorial Library.

Mizpah Circle is a member of the Maine Branch of the International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons.

Haunted House

STRATTON – The Dead River Area Historical Society will have a Haunted House at the home of Lee and Mary Henderson, 180 Main St., from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Hendersons have volunteered their home for the fundraiser and welcome the public.

So much restoration work has been done in the museum that it has to be heated. The metal ceiling has been restored, and walls and partitions have been painted. Artifacts, manuscripts and photographs from the 1850s have been donated or loaned from interested townspeople and descendants of the original families of the Dead River Region.

Exhibits include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.

The building has to be heated in order to keep items preserved. Donations will be requested benefit the museum’s heating cost.

Seniors meeting

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls-Jay Senior Citizens met at Murray Hall on Oct. 16 with 38 members present. Chairwoman Shirley Couture opened the meeting with a prayer, salute to the flag and a moment of silence for departed members and the men and women in the Armed Forces. Mary Groleau led in singing “Faith of our Fathers.”

The sick list included Emile Richards, Lorraine Ellingwood, who is at the Tufts Medical Center, Walter Ellingwood and Norman Duguay.

Couture reminded the members about the Halloween party to be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at SeniorsPlus. The 50-50 was won by Jeannine Williams. The meeting was adjourned and cards and games were played.
