FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots signed rookie center Brian Barthelmes to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Barthelmes, 23, was first signed by the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent in May.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Virginia product participated in the team’s first three preseason games before being released on Aug. 29.

Barthelmes played in 47 games, starting 38, in four seasons with the Cavaliers at both guard and center.

With the signing, the Patriots practice squad is back at the limit of eight players. Offensive lineman Billy Yates was signed to the active roster last Saturday.
