DIXFIELD – An example of community and high school students working together occurred over the past summer for the safety of students and staff at Dirigo High School.

On Aug. 9, members of the Mexico and Dixfield police departments held a school shooting/school lockdown training program at the school.

The all-day event also involved nine high school students, who volunteered to participate in an afternoon of “school lockdown” drills.

As a token of their appreciation, the Dixfield Police Department presented certificates during the recent Student of the Month Assembly to the original nine students and two additional students for their assistance with Dirigo High School staff who participated in school lockdown procedures after school on Sept. 28.
