Nearly 2,000 mourners paid their respects to an Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputy this morning at Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston. Law enforcement officers and U.S. troops joined friends and family of David Rancourt at his funeral. Rancourt, a member of the dive team, died from a heart attack last weekend at age 40 while searching for criminal evidence in the Androscoggin River.
Later in the day, during his burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Rancourt was honored with a 21-gun salute and a fly-over by LifeFlight of Maine. His wife, Dawn, and 7-year-old son, Jeromey, were presented with the folded American flag that had been draped over the casket.
