Support group

PARIS – REACH, the Rape Education and Crisis Hotline for Oxford County, Harrison and Bridgton, is starting a support group at the Paris office. The group is for women who have been sexually abused/assaulted as children or adults.

For most survivors of sexual assault, recovery is delayed or more difficult without support. For some, thinking about being part of a group is scary.

All REACH group participants are encouraged to speak when they are comfortable. Groups are closed. Once the group begins, no new members can join. Usually, after members get to know one another, recognize they are not alone and others have experienced similar circumstances, they begin to feel safe enough to speak.

Those interested in becoming part of a support group or those who have questions should call the REACH office at 743-9777. There is no charge for the group.

REACH welcomes all survivors of sexual assault, male and female, to call the REACH Hotline 24 hours a day at 1-800-871-7741 for support.

In the future, REACH may offer a support group for men who have been sexually assaulted.
