SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – Zenon Konopka scored one goal and set up two others Friday night to lift the Portland Pirates to a 4-0 American Hockey League victory over the Springfield Falcons.

Ryan Carter, Pierre Parenteau and Simon Ferguson also scored for the Pirates. Michael Leighton finished with 18 saves in goal for his 22nd career AHL shutout.

Ferguson closed the scoring at 6:16 with his first goal of the season. The Pirates, who outshot the Falcons, 42-18, negated all seven Springfield power plays.

Parenteau scored from the high slot after Konopka won a draw in the offensive zone at 6:59 of the second period to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead. Konopka scored 77 seconds into the period when his shot deflected off Springfield center Jared Aulin’s stick and caromed past Karri Ramo.

Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Carter tipped Konopka’s shot from the point past Ramo.

The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Falcons.
