ORONO – Chris Bruff and Phil Tchekane Bofia each scored 18 points Wednesday night to help lead Maine to a 97-69 win over St. Joseph of Vermont.

The teams stayed close through the first half and Maine (2-3) held a slim 37-33 edge at intermission. But the Black Bears, with five players scoring in double figures, pulled away in the second half, at one point going ahead by 34.

Maine’s Junior Bernal had 16 points, and led all players with seven rebounds and 11 assists.

Richard Ortega had 19 points for St. Joseph (2-3).

Maine shot 55 percent from the floor, hitting 25 of 37 attempts in the second half.
