OXFORD – The biggest Christmas concert in the Oxford Hills comes to the high school at 7:30 p.m. Friday to help make Christmas merrier for area low-income teens.

The concert, which features 59 people, ages 11 to 72, from the local communities and schools, is the year’s biggest fundraiser for the Oxford Hills Christmas for Teens program, which provides Christmas presents for area teens 13 to 18.

Christmas for Teens Co-chair Jean Delamater said she has received more applications than usual from kids wanting to participate, and they usually come pouring in after the concert.

The program takes up where the Oxford Hills Christmas for Kids program leaves off. Both programs work under Right Start.

To participate, the teens must live in the Oxford Hills towns, be full-time students and have a financial need.

Delamater said the program spends about $50 per teen. Last year 177 participated.

Applications for the program are available at the high school and community concepts.

Friday’s show will open with a Christmas on Broadway theme, which the entire company will perform, said Cynthia Wescott, director of the show.

Then there will be a series of performances, ranging from Christmas classics to a performance by the high school drama class called “The Misfit Toys that Fit.”

The second part of the show will be the story of Christmas, again with a variety of different pieces.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens.
