AUBURN – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will host an open house on Saturday, Dec. 9, for all those wishing to visit the old shelter, before staff moves into the new facility on Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, at the end of December.

Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. area residents are invited to stop in for a human treat, visit the animals, shop for holiday gifts or pick a needed item from the “Wish Tree.” Local artist Allyson Collins will feature her “Humane Inspirations” pieces, including hand-painted ornaments, homemade candy and greeting cards.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a haven for approximately 4,000 animals in the greater Androscoggin area a year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations of residents.

The shelter is located at 3312 Hotel Road, but staff expects to be settled in a new facility on Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston at the beginning of the new year. For more information on the new building or to learn how to adopt a pet, call the shelter at 783-2311 or visit the Web at www.gahumane.org.
