Show meeting
FARMINGTON – An Elks and Emblem variety show organizational meeting for the mid-winter show will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Elks Lodge. All members and spouses are welcome.
Watch canceled
JAY – The Jay Police Department has announced the neighborhood watch program for Jay Hill residences is canceled until after the holidays. The program will resume shortly after the New Year.
Puppet show
LIVERMORE FALLS – A new puppet ministry at Eaton Memorial Methodist Church will be launched at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Member Heather Lindwall has been working with the teens in the church for the presentation of the first program, titled “A Puppet Christmas.” All are invited to the program and refreshments following the show.
Yule dinner
FARMINGTON – A Christmas dinner is planned for the community luncheon to be served from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, corner of Academy and Main streets.
The meals are free to all in the community. The menu will include ham, potato, squash, coleslaw and strawberry shortcake. For more information, call the church at 778-2163 or Dot Bryant at 778-4608.
Christmas cantata
NEW SHARON – A Christmas cantata, “The Splendor of Christmas,” will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. The performers are made up of the church choir with others from area churches, including the local UCC and the Mercer UMC.
This is the 39th consecutive year that a cantata has been held at the church. Refreshments will be served in the vestry following the program, sponsored by the church’s Woman’s Society. Pastor Karen Garcia extends a welcome to all.
Pantry open
PHILLIPS – The Phillips Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19. It will be closed on the other Tuesdays in December. The pantry has a selection of food and serves residents in Avon, Madrid and Phillips.
It is located in the basement of the Phillips Methodist Church. Anyone who is not signed up should bring proof of residence, such as a recent electric bill.
Volunteers are appreciated and those who would like to volunteer are asked to call Madeline at 369-3366.
Church program
FARMINGTON – The Farmington Baptist Church will present “The Music of Christmas” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16 and 17. There will be choral Christmas music, skits and a live nativity presentation.
Kids’ party
JAY – The VFW Post and Auxiliary will hold the annual children’s Christmas party from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the post home, Jewell Street. There will be entertainment, small gifts for the children, cookies and punch. A guest, Santa Claus, will make an appearance sometime that afternoon.
Christmas pageant
LIVERMORE – The North Livermore Baptist Church will have a Sunday school Christmas pageant at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. It will be a multi-generational telling of the “Christmas Story.”
There has been extensive work done on the set, costumes and special effects. Refreshments will be served.
