SALEM – Senior guard Chris Smith recorded a game-high 19 points with six assists to lead Mt. Abram to a 53-48 triumph over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

The Roadrunners (1-2) utilized their veteran prowess to take a 29-23 halftime lead. Senior guard Wyatt Johnson posted 13 points, while senior forward Nick Peruffo added another 11 in the winning effort.

The Greyounds (0-2) made three 3-point baskets down the stretch to unnerve Mt. Abram in the final minutes. Junior guard Zach Moan led Lisbon with 16 points, while sophomore forward Steven Michaud and freshman guard Scott Eck provided 10 points each.

GNG 39, NYA 33

GRAY – Senior forward Josh Levasseur scored a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 39-33 victory over North Yarmouth Academy in WMC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

The Patriots (1-2) took a 22-11 lead at the midpoint. Junior guard Billy Googins also contributed 11 points, including a bucket from beyond the arc.

The Panthers (1-2) battled in the third period to grab a one point advantage, but gave up ground in the final frame to suffer the loss. Senior guard Banak Thiwat led the Panthers with a game-high 12 points on four baskets, including three 3-pointers.

Wiscasset 89, Telstar 42

WISCASSET – Curtis DeCosta poured a game-high 31 points and hauled down seven rebounds to lead Wiscasset to a 89-42 rout over Telstar in MVC boy’s basketball action Thursday. Jason Dennison chipped in for the Redskins (3-0) with 18 points in what was primarily a two-man attack.

The Rebels (0-3) were paced by Matt Zinchuk with a 12-point performance, while Ryan Kimball added 10. Wiscasset led by just six points after the first quarter, then went on a 30-4 run in the second frame to gain control.

Dirigo 93, Georges Valley 50

DIXFIELD – Thomas Knight and Mike Holmquist netted 20 points each Thursday to pace Dirigo to a 93-50 victory over Georges Valley in another MVC boy’s matchup. Josh Daley chipped in for the Cougars (3-0) with 16 points, Wes Gagnon tallied 12 and veteran Spencer Berry added 11 as five players hit double digits.

The Buccaneers (1-2) had three players in double figures, led by Nate Frisbee with 16 points.

Brandon Staples contributed with 15, while Charles Johanson added 10. Dirigo haled a commanding 52-24 advantage at the half and was never seriously challenged.

Girls’ basketball

Wells 41, Poland 40

WELLS – Emily Wallingford scored 16 points as Wells hung on for a 41-40 win over Poland in WMC girls’ basketball action Thursday.

The Knights (1-2) were powered by junior forward Paige Piper, who carried the team with 31 points on 12 field goals, including five from beyond the arc, and a pair of free throws.

The Warriors’ (3-0) defense was taxed in the final frame as Poland made a 16-12 push, but came up one field goal shy of the win.
