AUBURN – Junior forward Corey LaRue notched a hat trick to lift Edward Little to a 6-3 triumph over Portland in hockey action Saturday.

Sophomore forward Billy Brewster was a playmaker for the Red Eddies (2-2), assisting on three goals. Junior forward Nick Luce provided a pair of goals for the Bulldogs (2-1).

Goalie Adam Loudermilk made 21 saves for Edward Little, while Zack Meoli repelled 17 for Portland in the loss.

Cony 9, Poland-GNG 0

HEBRON – Sophomore Brad Hebert scored a goal and three assists to help Cony skated to a 9-0 blanking over Poland/Gray-New Gloucester in hockey action Saturday.

Nine different Rams players scored in the contest. Senior Tommy Poulin had a goal and two assists, while junior Tade Brooks also scored a goal and two assists.

Senior goalie Dick Claudel made eight saves for Cony (1-0), while Sean Bilodeau turned away 39 saves for the Patriotic Knights (1-2).

Boys’ basketball

Poland 68, Lake Region 56

POLAND – Senior guard Joe Douglass recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Poland to a 68-56 victory over Lake Region in WMC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Knights (3-1) trailed 25-21 at the break, but came out strong in the third quarter to take a 2-point lead. In the final frame, Poland turned up the heat by making 19-of-25 free throws to pull away for the 12-point win.

Senior guard Tyler Merchant contributed 18 points, six rebounds and three steals for Poland, while senior guard Todd Shigo led the Lakers (0-3) with 15 points.

Men’s basketball

USM 66, UMF 53

GORHAM – Southern Maine limited Maine-Farmington to three points in the opening eight minutes and rolled to a 66-53 men’s basketball victory Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (4-5) opened the game with a decisive 17-3 run to take command.

Greg Whitaker led USM with 14 points and eight rebounds. Nick Gooding added 13 points and Josh Daniels had 12.

Sean Fry and Matt St. John led UMF (4-5) with 11 and 10 points.
