ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Jameer Nelson made four free throws in the final 28 seconds and scored a season-high 29 points in the Orlando Magic’s 91-86 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night.

Dwight Howard had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Magic, who gave up only two field goals to the Clippers in the last 5 minutes. Hedo Turkoglu and Trevor Ariza had 14 points apiece for Orlando.

Corey Maggette led Los Angeles with 20 points, but the Clippers struggled to score in the second half. Elton Brand had 15 points and Tim Thomas finished with 13, but each of them scored only two points in the second half.

Turkoglu hit three straight long-range jumpers, including a 3-pointer, to start the Magic on a 13-6 run in the middle of the fourth quarter. Nelson finished the run with a fastbreak layup that made it 84-75 with 4:15 left.

Cuttino Mobley made a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left to cut it to 89-86 and Magic rookie J.J. Redick threw away the inbounds pass to give Los Angeles one last try at tying it. Thomas got open for a 3-pointer, but shot an airball.

Nelson closed out the scoring with a pair of free throws.

The Clippers scored only two points in the final 3 minutes of the third period, surrendering the lead for the first time since the opening minute. Orlando’s Tony Battie tied it at 59-59 with 3:32 left in the quarter and Nelson gave Orlando the lead with a jumper from the top of the key with 59 seconds left.

Ariza nailed a 20-footer just before the buzzer to put Orlando up 67-63 going into the final quarter.

The Clippers’ big men dominated the first half, but tired late in the second period and couldn’t sustain their run. Brand, Thomas and Chris Kaman combined for 15 of 19 shooting from the floor as Los Angeles shot 55.3 percent for the half.

A dunk by Thomas at the end of a fastbreak gave the Clippers a 39-28 lead with 6:32 left in the second quarter, their largest lead of the half.

Nelson’s 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer cut the Magic deficit to 48-41.
