Lodge meeting

CANTON – Whitney Lodge 167, AF and AM, will hold its annual meeting at 7:30 p.m. today, preceded by a casserole supper at 6:30 p.m. All Master Masons are welcome.

Circle session

RUMFORD – The Daughters of Isabella, St. Timothy Circle 504, will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the St. Athanasius and St. John Church hall.

Committee members are Pauline Buckingham, Florence Boucher, Rita Myles, Elizabeth Stoklas, Myrtle McKenna, Anna Justard and Jeannette Brown.

Bottle drive

MEXICO – Mountain Valley Middle School cheerleaders will hold a bottle drive on Saturday, Jan. 6, starting at 11 a.m.

The cheerleaders are raising money for the competition team.

Those who will not be at home but would like to donated bottles are asked to take them to Four Corners Redemption on Waldo Street anytime on Saturday.

Meetings planned

RUMFORD – The American Legion and Auxiliary will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the post home, Congress Street, for a lunch with meetings to follow. Auxiliary members are reminded to bring items for the church kitchen pantry.

Tourney cancelled

RUMFORD – The DDR Tournament at Black Mountain, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 5, has been postponed due to the Mt. Valley Middle School away ski meet and the Mt. Valley versus Dirigo basketball game. The tournament will be rescheduled.

Legion meals

RUMFORD – American Legion Post 24 will start serving meals on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. The meal, to be served from 5 p.m. until sold out on Jan. 11, will include smothered sirloin tips with mashed potatoes, vegetables and dessert.

The meals are open to the public and take-outs are available by calling ahead at 369-9053.

Chamber speaker

BETHEL – John Melrose, former commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation, will speak at the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, Jan. 17, networking breakfast to be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Bethel Inn Resort. Melrose is also a representative of the Maine Better Transportation Association.

Anyone interested in learning about the newly formed Maine Transportation Funding Coalition is welcome to attend, although an RSVP is required by calling the chamber office at 824-2282 no later than Tuesday, Jan. 16. A buffet breakfast will be served and the $8 fee will be collected at the door.
