SUMNER – When Glenn Hinckley dons his apron, good things happen in his new doughnut shop on Main Street.

Beeps Bakery turns out homemade doughnuts, whoopie pies in seven flavors, four kinds of breads, bars, muffins, slices of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, brownies and Finish Nissua.

When one enters the spotless shop, there is a small table with chairs to sit and drink a cup of coffee while sampling the goods. As his assistant, Linda Smith, pulls a pan of date bars out of the oven, the room is filled with mouth-watering smells. Around the walls hang framed photographs by local artist Lee Hewey.

Beeps Bakery is so named because his first grandchild attempted to say grand dad and came out with “Beeps.”

The business opened Dec. 2. Hinckley is already stocking the Mallard Mart in West Paris, Canton Variety and Yianni’s House of Pizza in Paris with his most popular item, whoopie pies, as well as his four flavors of doughnuts. Hinckley said he makes an average of 60 whoopie pies a day.

Smith said their motto is real food with real ingredients, and they use all natural ingredients in the baking.

Hinckley said it’s best to call ahead for a special order. That number is 388-2741. The bakery is in his residence at 1122 Main St., which is also Route 219.
